Kangaroo Recipe Feeding Guide:

Note: Kangaroo Recipe for Cats is not suitable for kittens or pregnant/lactating female cats unless you feed in rotation with Dr. B’s Turkey Recipe.

Reduced Energy patties for cats include Dr. B’s BARF Kangaroo Recipe.

  • They are most suitable during early pregnancy, for healthy adult and older cats.
  • These patties are recommended for overweight cats, needing to lose weight.
  • They may be used for highly active outdoor cats, but the amount fed may need to be increased.
  • These patties are less suitable during mid to late pregnancy, but the amount fed may need to be increased.
  • They are not ideal during lactation or for growing kittens; the high energy patties are more suitable.

This may be divided into 2 meals and the quantity reduced if fed as only part of the entire diet. Every animal is an individual and this is a guide only: adjust the feeding level to maintain desired body condition. Always ensure plenty of fresh, clean water is available for your pet.

Note that the exact nutritional analysis for each BARF recipe will vary slightly with seasonal changes. This may cause differences in colour and consistency.  Such variations are normal and serve to enhance health in accordance with the Evolutionary Principles of Nutrition.  There is no need to adjust the feeding level to adjust for these changes.

Healthy adult cats: feed approx. 4% of bodyweight daily, divided into 2-3 meals.

  • The majority of cats are not highly active, so this guide should suffice for most adult cats as well as older cats, however highly active outdoor cats may need to be fed 5% (even up to 6% in rare cases) of bodyweight daily, divided into several meals.
  • For overweight cats, the feeding level may need to be reduced by up to 20–30% daily, in order to encourage weight loss.

Growing kittens: feed 5-6% of bodyweight daily, divided into 4-5 meals when young, reducing to 2-3 meals per day as they reach adulthood.

Feeding during pregnancy is divided into thirds, paralleling the growth of the kittens and increasing energy needs of the pregnant female:

  • For the first ⅓ of pregnancy: feed 4% of bodyweight daily, divided into 2-3 meals.
  • For the second ⅓ of pregnancy: feed 4-5% of bodyweight per day, divided into 3 meals.
  • For the last ⅓ of pregnancy: feed 5-6% of bodyweight per day, divided into 4 meals.
  • During lactation, depending on litter size and the age of the kittens: feed at least 5% of bodyweight per day up to free choice with large litters.

Note that these are guides only. Always adjust the amount you feed your cat to maintain the desired body weight and condition.
